6 Big Facts about Liposuction- Should I get it or not

If you are struggling with weight loss, you probably have heard all the advice under the sun. From hearing the benefits of the keto diet to the slimming belts, everything you hear adds to your confusion. And surgical methods are the most talked-about ones. Liposuction is also one of those!

Whether you see a celebrity gone through surgical transformation or a successful liposuction story on it, you end up having hundreds of questions about it.

I’ve gone through a similar experience, a friend of mine got liposuction surgery from a renowned plastic surgeon in Karachi, and he insisted on getting it. But when I started reading about it everything added to my existing confusion. Based on my experience, I’m sharing a bit of information on liposuction which I believe you will find useful.

Let’s begin with basics!

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a common surgical procedure used to remove stubborn fat from some particular areas of the body. The procedure targets the diet and exercise-resistant fat areas and fat cells are surgically removed from your body.

Things to consider before liposuction

Now let’s talk about the things that can help you to make an informed decision.

1- How much fat will be removed?

AS already discussed, liposuction is a surgical procedure intended to remove the stubborn fat from some targeted areas of your body. But it doesn’t mean that your every single fat cell can be removed via liposuction. There is a limitation! Yes, you heard it right; surgeons can only take off a limited amount of fat from your body (usually 3-5 pounds). Knowing the amount of fat that will be removed should be one of the most important considerations.

2- Discuss your expected outcomes!

Liposuction has its limitations itself and before deciding on liposuction, you need to discuss your targeted outcomes with your surgeon. Let me explain why! The process of liposuction can’t target all areas of your body and it can work best for some areas. Further, a liposuction procedure can help with the removal of cutaneous fat (present above muscles) but it has nothing to do with visceral fat (beneath muscle). So, if you are struggling with stubborn belly fat, liposuction might not be for you!

3- Consider your budget.

Just like any other surgical procedure, your finances can play an important role in determining your approach. Though you might find cheaper options tempting but remember cheap isn’t always the best choice. You are not buying a pair of shoes that you will be able to replace; it’s all about your health. So, if you are looking for the cheapest option, drop the thought and look for a registered facility.

I got my liposuction done at DHA Medical Center, a renowned healthcare facility in Karachi. It took me very little time to recover as the physician instructed very clearly about all the pre and post-surgical measures.

4- How long will it take to recover?

The post-surgery recovery is an important element to consider while going for liposuction. Most of the patients require 2-4 weeks to fully recover and resume their routine activities. However, the recovery time can vary from person to person and can depend upon the amount of fat removed as well as the area targeted.

5- Inquire about post-surgical care

Well, for most of the patients, post-surgical care is about little discomfort and slight pain. But again it depends upon the procedure and extent of the procedure. Your lifestyle choices can affect your recovery time.

6- Can I eat anything after going through liposuction?

You need to understand that going through liposuction doesn’t guarantee that you will not gain weight afterwards. Liposuction only removes existing fat cells in your body it just introduces any physiological changes in your body. So, even after going through liposuction, if you will eat excess calories, they will be stored as fats. So, you can still gain weight even after successful liposuction.

Takeaway Note!

Liposuction is the method of cutting down resistant fats in your body from the targeted areas. Anywhere, irrespective of gender and age can get benefited from it. So, if you are deciding on liposuction, make sure you consider these things.
