How-to Guide: Change Linksys WiFi Extender's Administrator Password

When accessing the Linksys extender setup page, a login screen appears asking for a default password. For security reasons - it is recommended to change the default password of your Linksys WiFi range extender. This post will guide you on how to change the Linksys extender's administrator password in no time. Let's get started!

Select your Linksys range extender’s model outlined underneath to know how to change its default administrator password.

Linksys RE6400, RE6250, RE6350, RE6300, RE6700, RE3000WV2, or RE4100W range extender:


  1. Power on your Linksys extender and connect it to your main using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Wait for some time for the power LED on your Linksys extender to light green.
  3. Connect to Linksys extender setup-xxx.
  4. Turn on your device like PC, smartphone or a laptop and load up an internet browser in it.
  5. Head towards its address bar and enter extender.linksys.com
  6. Enter your Linksys range extender's admin detail. If you have changed the Linksys extender login detail, enter it instead. Else, type in the default password in the password field and click on Login.
  7. On the Linksys extender web-based setup page, select the “Management” option under Administration section.
  8. Enter your preferred Linksys extender's administrator password in the “Extender Password” field. Re-enter to confirm the password.
  9. Once done, click on Save to apply the settings.
That's it! Linksys extender's default admin password has been changed successfully.

Linksys RE1000, RE2000, RE3000W, RE4000W, or RE6500 range extender:

  1. Access the device's web-based setup page by launching an internet browser and entering Linksys extender IP or extender.linksys.com web address correctly in the URL bar field.
  2. Don't forget to connect your main router to your Linksys extender via an Ethernet cable.
  3. Click on Administration option. Enter the new Linksys extender's WiFi password in the Extender Password field and re-enter to confirm.
  4. Click on the “Save Settings” button to apply the changes.
Note: Your Linksys WiFi range extender will restart automatically and ask you to enter the new password you just created. Type in your new password carefully in the authentication box and use it for the next time you login to Linksys extender web-based setup page.

Check if your Device is Connected to Linksys Extender

Make sure that your router is connected to your Linksys WiFi extender via Ethernet cable. If you are connected, then ensure that the cable you are using isn't loose or dusty. On the off chance that the issue still persists, unplug your devices – wait for some time and plug them in back again.

Check the Indicator LED of the Linksys Extender

The indicator LED on your extender will help you identify the status of the device. If you don't see any light, push the power (on/off) button on your Linksys device once.

Power Cycle your Linksys Extender

Disconnect and reconnect your Linksys extender from the power outlet. Wait for the Power LED on your extender to become green.

Note: If all the steps above-mentioned steps failed, disable any security software on your computer or laptop prior to accessing the Linksys WiFi extender setup page.

Reset your Extender

Press and hold the Reset button or hole on your range extender. Hold and release it. Linksys extender reset successfully.

Note: Resetting your Linksys extender will restore its factory settings and you will need to setup Linksys extender again.
